DRIVE-C

Towards HCV elimination among people who inject drugs

Project overview

Evaluation of an integrated community-based model combining hepatitis C screening, simplified treatment and peer support in Hai Phong.

Objective

Assess the effectiveness of an integrated hepatitis C screening and care model for people who inject drugs, including its durability 36 months after treatment initiation.

Study design

Participants were recruited through the DRIVE respondent-driven sampling surveys and cohort. The model combined mass community screening, simplified direct-acting antiviral treatment and community support for referral, retention, adherence and reinfection prevention. Ancillary studies examined mitochondrial genotoxicity, occult hepatitis and telomere length.
