Molecular tuberculosis screening in high-risk populations

Project overview

A two-phase evaluation of innovative tuberculosis screening among people in rehabilitation centres, detention facilities and prisons in Hai Phong.

Objective

Assess the acceptability, feasibility and diagnostic yield of innovative tuberculosis screening in high-risk populations, including molecular testing, alternative non-invasive samples and cost-effectiveness.

Study design

Phase 1, embedded in DRIVE-TB, evaluates AFYIA PCR against Xpert MTB/RIF® and examines sample types and pooling. Phase 2 plans cross-sectional screening in three rehabilitation centres and two detention or prison settings, with referral, treatment follow-up, health education and peer support.
